MANILA (July 27) – The Philippines has expressed concern over the ongoing conflict between ASEAN members Thailand and Cambodia, urging a peaceful resolution in line with international law.

In a statement late Saturday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said the Philippines supports efforts to de-escalate tensions and is willing to help restore peace between the two nations.

“The Philippines is deeply concerned over the conflict between our ASEAN neighbors and urges both sides to resolve the issue peacefully and within the bounds of international law,” Marcos said. “We stand ready to assist in restoring peace.”

Clashes began Thursday near the disputed Ta Moan Thom Temple and have since spread to six areas along the Thai-Cambodian border. Reports indicate 32 fatalities and over 130 injuries.

The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok has advised Filipinos to avoid travel to seven affected Thai provinces: Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Sa Kaeo, Buri Ram, Chanthaburi, and Trat.
