DAVAO CITY —- The Philippine government has prepared a contingency plan for thousands of overseas Filipino workers in Taiwan in case Chinese forces invade the island, says chairman Silvestre Bello III of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office said Friday.

Bello III in an interview with Newsline said “as of now, the situation in Taiwan remains “normal” but I already sent the Philippine repatriation plan to the President through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.”

Currently, some 175,000 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW’s) are in Taiwan,

Jennifer Paquican, an one of the thousands of the FIlipinos working in Tawain in an interview with Newsline said “We are used to hearing and seeing military cars passing through and we heard about the possible invation for long.”

But despite the tension, Paquican said they are still comfortable and at peace.

To the families of the OFW’s, Bello assured “Your family members and loved one’s in Taiwan is safe and please do not worry as it is now.”
