MANILA (September 10) — In an effort to diversify trade partners and alleviate the effects of global tensions, the Philippines is exploring Taiwan as a growth market for agricultural export.
According to a statement issued yesterday by the Department of Agriculture (DA), the country participated in the Taiwan Smart Agri-Week 2025 to increase the presence of Philippine agri-fishery goods and grab new export prospects.
“This participation reflects President Marcos’ vision, as underscored in his 2025 State of the Nation Address, to grow key industries such as agriculture and agribusiness,” DA Assistant Secretary Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra stated.
Products from established exporters, small businesses, and young farmers were on display at the trade show, which took place in Taipei from September 3 to 5.
Products made with vanilla, concentrated coffee, bananas, coconuts, mangoes, artisanal chocolates, bottled sardines, and turmeric tea were all on display at the Philippine Pavilion.
Airspeed, a logistics company, also discussed how it helps guarantee the effective delivery of goods to Taiwan.
Taiwan is a crucial partner, according to Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil, head of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO).
“We view Taiwan as a valuable partner as the Philippines strives to modernize and develop its agriculture industry. Our countries agree that agriculture is an essential component of social equity, economic stability, and national security and goes beyond the production of food,” she said.
In addition to the exposition, the Philippine Investment Forum, which showcased the Philippine Logistics Roadmap and covered agriculture prospects, was co-hosted by the DA, DTI, and Philippine Trade and Investment Center-Taipei.
One of the Philippines’ closest agricultural partners is Taiwan. Anthony Rivera, a trade agent for PTIC Taipei, stated, “We are connecting our farmers and agribusiness owners with Taiwan’s buyers, investors, and technology leaders through Smart Agri-Week.”
He continued, “This is about matching a sophisticated market with top-notch Filipino products and opening doors for deeper investment and collaboration to grow export-driven industries.”
Additionally, ten Philippine exhibitors had the chance to interact with possible investors and make product pitches.
