MANILA (November 16) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed its forces on the highest alert to secure simultaneous prayer rallies in Metro Manila from Nov. 16 to 18. The alert took effect at 5 p.m. on Friday, according to PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., to ensure full implementation of the security plan.

“With the expected influx of people, we activated a comprehensive security plan covering ground operations, traffic management, intelligence monitoring, emergency response, and maritime patrols. All teams are ready to respond as needed,” Nartatez said.

A total of 16,433 police officers and support units will be deployed to two main rally sites: Rizal Park in Manila for the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) “Rally for Transparency and a Better Democracy” and the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City for the United People’s Initiative (UPI) gathering. Personnel have been strategically positioned across Metro Manila starting Saturday.

PNP units are fully prepared for any scenario and are coordinating closely with other government agencies. In addition, Police Regional Office 3 (Central Luzon) will augment NCR security with over 2,200 personnel, including 1,138 crowd dispersal management units and 1,139 standby forces composed of female officers, CDM units, and the Regional Special Support Force (RSSF). PRO-3 chief Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones Jr. said the teams are equipped to support NCRPO and expect a peaceful event.

Meanwhile, Nartatez denied online claims of large crowds gathering in Mendiola ahead of the rallies, calling the posts false and misleading. He urged the public to rely only on official government advisories and credible news sources.

“The public should not believe unverified social media posts. Always check official sources for accurate information,” Nartatez said, assuring that police units are ready to maintain order throughout the three-day activities.
