DAVAO CITY  (October 5)  The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recalled the services of the two police security personnel assigned to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde issued the recall order after a “thorough review, in line with the effort to maximize the use of the human resource.”

Since June, the PNP has conducted a review of all protective security personnel under the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) which is provided to “all qualified VIPs, including elected and appointed officials.”

Chief Supt. Filmore Escobal, director of PNP-Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) said government officials are entitled up to two (2) police security escorts but a request has to be made,  and when the Senator is already cleared by the court.

“Entitled siya, just like any government official but the request has to be submitted for approval of the PNP chief,” he pointed out.  An evaluation from the Directorate for Intelligence will also be conducted to determine the extent of threat, if any.

Escobal said that the PNP continually ensure that police personnel are not unwittingly used by any politician or VIPs for economic or political reasons, especially as the election season is fast approaching. –Jiann Padillo/ NewsLine
