DAVAO CITY –— Prices of vegetables in Davao public market remains low despite the fluctuating prices of petroleum products which often trigger erratic price movement.

Since the start of 2022, market prices have increased which was further aggravated with the still unresolved Russia-Ukraine war which triggered the snowballing of petroleum prices.

People have yet to normalize their movement since the pandemic rendered them immobile and the purchasing power is still low

At Bankerohan, Agdao and Toril public markets here, vendors are complaining of slow movement of goods as purchasing power remains low due to the economic impact of the pandemic.

Nelia Suar, a fish vendor goes to the “bagsakan” (common dropping area) for fish at Bankerohan said “We did not increase prices just to entice customers but still the sale is very low, people are not buying.”

Prices of fish range from P100 to P130 while scrimps and crabs at P230 to P350 depending on size.

Meat vendor Ayet Orehuela said the prices of meat ranges from P280 to P350.

Orehuela said “the movement in the market and the buying capacity is still very low”

given the low buying capacity, vegetable dealer Evangeline Zamora said they opted to sell their goods at a low price just to earn and bring something for the family at the end of the day.

“Wala mi nag-increase kay hinay kaayo ang palit, unya malata ang gulay (We did not increase our price because the market is slow, our goods will rot.),” said Zamora.
