DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Detained televangelist Apollo Quiboloy is currently engaging in Bible study while in detention, according to his lawyer, Atty. Mark Tolentino on Saturday.
During a visit to Quiboloy at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center at Camp Crame on Saturday, Tolentino described their meeting as a focused “Bible study” session. The discussion centered on spiritual topics rather than legal issues.
Tolentino noted that Quiboloy, who has been feeling isolated following the transfer of his four co-accused to Pasig City Jail, valued the opportunity for a personal, one-on-one conversation.
“Nag-Bible study po kami doon. We were discussing the word of God. I am grateful to Pastor Quiboloy for the chance to have this private discussion. We talked about the Bible and its spiritual teachings. That is what we are currently focusing on,” Tolentino said.
Regarding the ongoing hearings and the new allegations against Quiboloy, Tolentino declined to comment, citing restrictions on discussing active legal proceedings.
“I cannot speak about the hearings due to a sub judice ruling, which prohibits me from discussing ongoing legal matters,” Tolentino explained.
“From my perspective, allegations alone do not equate to guilt. It is important to uphold the presumption of innocence until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. We must base our understanding on the law, established jurisprudence, and evidence, rather than speculation,” he added.
