DAVAO CITY— Communities in Palimbang and Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat are now better shielded from flooding with the completion of two riverbank protection structures by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

DPWH Region 12 Director Basir M. Ibrahim announced the completion of a 400-meter riverbank protection structure in Barangay Baranayan, Palimbang, and a 140-meter riverwall in Barangay Ala, Esperanza.

“These projects are designed to protect low-lying communities from floodwaters, safeguarding their livelihoods, which are primarily based on farming and fishing,” said Director Ibrahim.

The structures not only protect agricultural lands and residential areas from flood damage but also help prevent road deterioration and soil erosion. Additional features include concrete pavements for service roads, metal railings, solar lights, embankments, grouted riprap, and PVC pile foundations.

Funded by the General Appropriations Act of 2023, the projects were implemented by the Sultan Kudarat 2nd District Engineering Office at a total cost of ₱97.92 million.
