DAVAO CITY — After a long struggle to keep their rubber plantations away from dying due to Pestalotiopsis Leaf Fall Disease, the rubber farmers of Akbar town in Basilan province are now knowledgeable to fight against it.
This, after the personnel from Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) in partnership with the Local Government of Akbar conducted a seminar on November 17, 2023.
The event, held at the Akbar Government Center and spearheaded by town Mayor Alih A. Sali.
The farmers were oriented and taught on the tools tools they need to effectively control and mitigate the disease.
The officials from PRRI who led the orientation meeting were Senior Science Research Specialists Daireen O. Go and Jess Bryan Alvarino, along with Administrative Officer Murni S. Maharadja. They shared their expertise and insights with the farmers, empowering them to take action against the disease.
The orientation meeting is just one example of the PRRI’s commitment to supporting rubber farmers in the Philippines. By partnering with local governments and engaging with farmers directly, the PRRI is helping to build a more sustainable and resilient rubber industry in the country.
