PATIKUL, Sulu(December 17) — Students of Sulu State College (SSC), many of whom travel long distances daily or struggle to find safe accommodation near campus, are set to benefit from a new P20-million student dormitory turned over by the Bangsamoro Government on December 13.
The two-storey facility with a roof deck is expected to ease housing constraints for learners from far-flung towns in Sulu by providing a safer, more accessible living space close to school.
The dormitory was constructed by the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) through its Sulu 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) and formally handed over during a turnover, acceptance, and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Engr. Ajan S. Ajijul, district engineer of Sulu 1st DEO, said the project highlights the importance of coordination and partnership in delivering sustainable, high-quality infrastructure that supports education.
“This new dormitory stands as a powerful symbol of our connected commitment and hard work,” Ajijul said. “We believe it will greatly enhance the well-being and academic experience of learners and educators in this institution.”
SSC President Prof. Charisma S. Ututalum underscored the importance of safe, accessible, and inclusive student housing, noting that it plays a critical role in promoting learning, student well-being, and academic success.
The turnover ceremony was attended by officials from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), including Dr. Lora L. Yusi, director of the Office of Institutional Quality Assurance and Governance, along with members of the CHED Composite Team, SSC officials, and students.
SSC officials expressed gratitude to the Bangsamoro Government for its continued support, describing the dormitory as a timely addition that will help ease accommodation challenges and improve the overall learning environment on campus.
The facility is expected to be fully utilized in the coming academic terms, forming part of the Bangsamoro Government’s broader efforts to invest in education as a foundation for sustainable peace and development in Sulu and across the region.
