Senior citizen crossing pedestrian lane killed by speeding motorbike

DAVAO CITY — Encarnacion O. Bongcalon, 73, was crossing the pedestrian lane along Elpidio Quirino Avenue, on Sunday when a speeding motorbike hit her causing her death.

Police Capt. Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) said Bongcalon, a resident of General Malvar Street in Poblacion District, crossed the pedestrian lane opposite the Santos Building but when she reached the other lane, he was suddenly hit by a Honda motorcycle.

When Davao City Central 911 personnel arrived, the victim had no vital signs. The body of the victim was taken to Angel Funeral Homes

In January 11, this year, the city’s newly amended City Ordinance 0270-23, Series of 2023, also known as the Speed Limit Ordinance, prescribed a speed limit of 20 kph shall be followed in all public subdivision roads, barangay roads, and school zones.

Tuazon identified the motorcycle driver as Alvin R. Tañeza, 27,

She revealed that due to the impact of the collision, the victim was thrown.

Taneza is now in police custody and will be charged with reckless driving.
