Slain Kidapawan journalist laid to rest

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Military honors were accorded to slain radioman Eduardo “Ed” Dizon here as he was buried at a local memorial park Wednesday.

Dizon, 58, commentator and former manager of Brigada News FM Kidapawan, was an Army reservist and former town councilor of Makilala, North Cotabato.

Dizon was shot dead by still unidentified gunmen on July 10 while driving his car heading for home along the national highway here.

Members of the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) gathered to pay their last respect to a colleague known for his commentaries on current local issues.

Most of the time he served as “office of the last resort” for people who have complaints against government or private institutions.

He was known to be an effective “bridge” between the marginalized and concerned government agencies in Kidapawan and in North Cotabato.

Undersecretary Joel Egco, director of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security, said the Special Investigation Task Group-Dizon had already identified three persons of interest who may have a hand in Dizon’s murder.
