DAVAO CITY – The office of 1st District Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment in Davao Region (DOLE-11), distributed food packs and cash assistance to some 997 marginalized workers on Saturday.

Data from the Office of the Congressman showed some 683 workers who are solo parents and 314 tricycle drivers received cash subsidy from the government’s assistance program to mitigate the impact of the public health emergency due to the coronavirus.

James Michael Vergara, a representative from the lawmaker’s office, said “Pulong” thanked Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III for the immediate response to his request on the disbursement of the said fund to the beneficiaries.

“Congressman Pulong has a message to all of us, he wanted us to take care of our work through good service to the people,” he said.

Apart from the said assistance, Pulong’s office has been distributing food packs to displaced workers.

Solo parent May Batulat, a resident of Barangay Magtuod here, thanked Duterte for the support he gave to solo parents and other marginalized workers.

She said the assistance they received is a big help for their family’s sustenance.

The distribution of food packs focused on the “poorest of the poor” from all 54 barangays in the first congressional district, Vergara said, adding that Duterte’s office eyes more assistance programs in the coming days. -PNA
