Syrian suspect in OFW murder nabbed

DAVAO CITY, PHILIPPINES — Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano announced Saturday the arrest of the Syrian wife of the Lebanese employer of slain OFW Joanna Demafelis.

“We have just been informed by the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait that Mona Hassoun, wife of Nader Essam Assaf, who are the principal suspects in the murder of our kababayan Joanna Demafelis, is now in custody of authorities in Damascus,” Cayetano said.

The Secretary said the victim’s Filipino recruiters should be the apprehended next.

Cayetano confirmed Friday the arrest of Demafelis’ Lebanese employer.

Nader Essam Assaf, the employer of Demafeliz, was arrested by authorities in Kuwait.

The 29-year-old Demafeliz was brutally killed in Kuwait.

Cayetano in a statement said, President Rodrigo Duterte welcomed the arrest of Assaf.
