Tawi-tawi fire victims receive assistance to rebuild homes

DAVAO CITY— Some 371 families whose houses were gutted by fire on September 7, at Barangay Poblacion in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi received P52,000 each cash assistance to rebuild their homes.

This, after the Bangsamoro regional and provincial governments through the Ministry of Social Services and Development’s (MSSD) Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA) program provided P23,000 while another P29,000 from the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) of Tawi-Tawi which all totaled to P52,000 on September 12.

 The ESA is one of the MSSD’s social protection programs under the Disaster Response and Management Division (DRMD) that focuses on rehabilitating and reconstructing the homes of indigent families affected by both natural and human-induced disasters.
 
Based on the assessment of the MSSD’s assessment, the total number of families affected and displaced totaled 1,000 families who are temporarily staying at Salamat Elementary School and Tawi-Tawi School of Fisheries, while some are with their relatives.
 
Belinda Adil, the Provincial Social Welfare Officer said, they distributed the cash assistance all together so that the beneficiaries can receive it in lumpsum amount and can immediately start to rebuild their houses .-with report from BIO
