Thousands expected to join INC peace rally; Road closures announced in Davao City

DAVAO CITY – Around 300,000 people from across Mindanao are anticipated to gather for the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) peace rally on January 13, part of a nationwide coordinated event.

To manage the influx of participants, the City Council has approved road closures affecting several streets in the city. According to the resolution, San Pedro Street, C.M. Recto Avenue, Pelayo Street, Iñigo Street, C. Bangoy Street, Rizal Street, Bonifacio Street, and Palma Gil Street will be partially closed from 9 p.m. on January 11 to 4 a.m. on January 12. These roads will be closed on January 13 from 8 a.m. until the program concludes.

Additionally, a portion of the Davao City Coastal Road, from Tulip Drive to Bago Aplaya, will also experience partial closures on January 13.

The city has never had this massive crowd, given the space on the city streets.

Concurrent “Walk for Sara” Event

The INC peace rally will coincide with a separate event supporting Vice President Sara Duterte. Dubbed Walk for Sara,” the activity will occur on January 13, starting at 1 p.m. at Freedom Park and ending at Rizal Park.

Supporters of the Vice President are encouraged to wear green, her signature color. A poster promoting the event reads, “We are 32 million Filipinos, and we are against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio.”

Dionesia Abude, head of the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), informed the City Council that the Davao City Coastal Bypass Road from Tulip Drive to Bago Aplaya will be partially closed to accommodate the events.

Motorists and commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly to avoid inconvenience during the simultaneous activities.

The city government reminds all participants to exercise discipline and cooperation to ensure a peaceful and orderly event.
