Duterte revokes Trillanes amnesty, senator faces charges, arrest

Davao City (September 4)— President Rodrigo Duterte has revoked the grant of amnesty to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV for failure to comply with its minimum requirements, Malacanang said Tuesday.

Trillanes was  granted amnesty 2011 in relation to his involvement in mutinies against the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2003, 2006 and 2007.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra confirmed that his Department  and the Armed Forces’ court martial were instructed to “pursue all criminal and administrative cases” against Trillanes over military uprisings in 2003 and 2007, according to a copy of Duterte’s proclamation.”

The military and the police were also ordered to “employ all lawful means to apprehend Trillanes” so that he could be detained.

In a statement, the National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers said the revocation of amnesty sends the message to “toe the line or get out of the way.”-Newsline
