Supreme Court suspends lawyer for milking client over annulment feePosted on
DAVAO CITY (February 24) — The Supreme Court has suspended a 78-year-old lawyer for asking his client P50,000 in connection with his annulment case nine years ago.
Aside from suspension, the resolution handed down by Justice Marvic Leonen dated January 8, ordered lawyer Wilfredo Lina-ac to return the money with interest to Everdina Angeles, with interest of six percent per annum until it is fully paid.
The Supreme Court found Lina-ac administratively guilty of negligence in the performance of his duty as the legal counsel of Angeles.
The court stated, Lina-ac committed a fraudulent act to cover his negligence.
The court record showed, Angeles hired the services of Lina-ac in February 2010 as she was moving to nullify her marriage to her husband.
Lina-ac deceived Angeles, he did not file the nullification case, but instead, furnished Angeles documents with documentary stamp, and claimed that the pre as if her case was filed in court, by placing a documentary stamp on the dubious papers, and he reported that a complaint for the annulment procedure has been filed before the regional trial court in Manolo Fortich Bukudnon .-jap
