ZAMBOANGA CITY — Police apprehended 95 violators around Region 9 since the election gun ban took effect on January 13, this year, a top police official announced.
Police Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Luis Licup, The Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) 9 director, said the arrested violators consisted of 88 civilians, four members of different government security forces, and three government officials.
Licup said they were caught carrying firearms, gun replicas, explosives, and bladed weapons during the conduct of checkpoints, buy-bust operations, police patrols, and response, law enforcement and other police operations.
A total of 917 other deadly weapons and ammunition were also confiscated, which included 16 grenades, 22 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), 874 ammunition, and five bladed weapons.
Licup assured the public that PRO-9 is exerting tremendous efforts to keep the whole region violence-free in connection with the upcoming May 13 mid-term elections.
The PRO-9 chief has also called the public and local candidates to continue supporting the authorities to attain peaceful and orderly elections.-PNA
