Senate approves bill postponing Barangay, SK elections to 2022Posted on
DAVAO CITY — The Senate on Monday approved on third and final reading the bill postponing the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to December 5, 2022.
Voting 21-0, the Senate Bill No. 1043 was approved which in effect will postpone the elections to 2022 instead of 2023.
The Bill also sets that village and SK elections be held every three (3) years thereafter.
The Senate committee on electoral reforms, local government, and finance earlier proposed that the elections be held in 2003 but it was changed over concerns that current officials will hold office for long time.
Before the 2017 barangay and SK elections, it was also subjected to several postponements.
The Commission on Elections, during the hearing has assured the Senate that they have the capability to manage holding two elections in a year.
Aside from the Barangay and SK elections, the national elections is also set to be held in 2022.-NewsLine.ph
