DAVAO CITY –— A town recently hit by African Swine Fever (ASF) passed an ordinance prohibiting the sale of live hogs and meat.
The Barangay Council of Ilian, in Magpet town, North Cotabato passed a resolution early this week restraining residents from selling live pigs, and if caught, shall be penalized to pay P1,500 while those caught selling meat will be fined P2,000.
Barangay Captain Gospel Luhong in a report published by dxND Radyo Bida-Kidapawan City, Barangay Captain Gospel Luhong said three villages in his barangay have been hit by ASF.
The barangay also established checkpoints in every purok to monitor compliance to the ordinance and to make sure no hog or its bi-product enters the affected villages.
Luhong said 65 percent of its residents own a backyard piggery. Newsline
