DAVAO CITY – The Davao Oriental Provincial Sports Complex will soon rise in Barangay Don Martin Marundan in Mati City Mati City, the capital of the province.
The ‘world-class’ sports facility will be constructed in the 12-hectare parcel of land owned by the provincial government.
This was announced by the provincial government of Davao Oriental in a statement on Thursday, Dec. 31.
Begun in January last year, the construction is still in its first phase which includes road network, drainage, site preparation and fencing and is expected to be completed ‘within the next few years.’
Once completed, the facilities and structures will include a 10,000-capacity gymnasium, touted to become the major attraction of the highly ambitious sports center project featuring state-of-the-art facilities like grandstand, bleachers, an oval, athletics field, baseball field, archery field, ball games area, aquatic center, administrative and receptions buildings, parking and commercial spaces, and an athlete’s dormitory to house athletes from other municipalities or provinces participating in events, among others.’
“More than just a sports center, the sports facility will also feature a forest park and playground, which complies with the green building design standards,” the provincial government said.
Being the initiative of his office, Governor Nelson Dayanghirang said “the project was born out of his administration’s ambitious goals to make the province a new hub for sporting events in the region and even in the country.”
“This will not only help inspire local athletes but will also draw more opportunities for the province in terms of investments and tourism,” Dayanghirang said.
Dayanghirang ‘sees the facility as a significant income-generating facility for the province that will also benefit local businesses and help create jobs as an offshoot of the development.’
“And with the highly-anticipated expansion and the eventual operation of the Mati Airport, residents and government officials are optimistic that there will be more developments in the province in the coming years,” the provincial government said. – NewsLine Philippines
