Town installs more streetlights in villagesPosted on
SANTO TOMAS, Davao del Norte —To provide sustainable lighting solution for people in remote areas, Mayor Ernesto Evangelista has ordered the installation of more streetlights in various barangays as one of the priority programs of this administration.
The latest were the two streetlights installed in Unit 0 and Unit 3 in Purok 20, Marscon, Barangay Tibal-og, Davao del Norte. Residents of Purok 20 had long been deprived of such facility until the current administration initiated such installation of the street lights.
Street lights were also installed in Purok 5 and 6 of Barangay Magwawa, Purok 1 of Barangay San Jose, Sitio Bangkal in Barangay Talomo, among other barangays. Another street lights will also illuminate roads in Barangay Bobongon and Balagunan, respectively.
The installation of streetlights in various barangays is a joint program of Councilor Julie H. Mantequilla, and Mayor Ernesto Evangelista.
Through their active coordination with Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC), the Evangelista admin was able to provide more lights on the streets which also curbed crime incidents in the area.
Mayor Evangelista said the installation of street light is expected to increase safety at night.
“If our barangay roads, public places, and remote areas are illuminated, this will add another layer of protection to our Tomasinos especially to our pedestrians, motorists who travel for work at night,” Evangelista said.
The lighting up of roads and streets would also provide more opportunity for income to all Tomasinos since they could continue their economic activities at night or even engage in outdoor social activities.
