DAVAO CITY — When every local government unit is up to protect their people and contain the possible spread of the coronavirus-19, a town Mayor provides mobility for his village leaders.

This compelled Monkayo municipal Mayor Ramil Gentugaya to equip the village frontliners the mobility they deserve especially in responding to emergency cases.

Monkayo is the first-class town of Davao de Oro with 21 barangays, the home for some 21, 508 households with 57,718 voters. Fort the year, the town operates with annual revenue of P323-million.

Gentugaya in an interview with Newsline.ph said the first batch of the procurement consists of 18 utility vehicles that will be distributed to the villages while the next batch will be for those who were not accommodated during the first delivery. Each vehicle costs P1.2-million.

For a millennial Mayor, emergency response is the call of the time, “We need to be ready always, given the Covid-19 threat, the call for emergency response is a must. We need to be alert because the threat is just two-meters away,” Gentugaya emphasized.

Given the limitation of the town, the local officials agreed to avail of a loan facility from Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) for the purpose, he added.

Lucky are the villagers, they can avail of the services of the vehicles during an emergency, or, in any disaster response and official business.

The turn-over will take place anytime. The registration will be covered by the municipal government and the succeeding renewal and maintenance will be undertaken by the concerned barangays.-Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
