Trapped miner in Davao de Oro rescued after 16-hours

DAVAO CITY — Sleepless but determined, this how rescuers described their 16-hour work to rescue a miner who was trapped inside a tunnel in Purok 12, barangay Mainit, Nabunturan town in Davao de Oro.

The miner was identified as Alvin, 28 years old and a resident of said village, he was trapped in about 7 feet below the ground after a mining tunnel he worked with collapsed on Thursday, July 8, 32021.

Davao de Oro is a mining town in Davao region, and most of the tunnels are secured with timbers.

The rescuers needed to use a backhoe to dig the area where he was trapped. He sustained minor bruises and been admitted to a local hospital in Nabunturan.

Alvin was rescued early Friday, July 9, by the Nabunturan Emergency Response Team, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and Bureau of Fire Protection.
