MANILA (November 2) – Tropical Storm Kalmaegi, locally named Tino, has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as the country’s 20th tropical cyclone of the year, according to PAGASA.

As of 11 a.m., Tino was located 955 km east of Eastern Visayas, moving westward at 30 kph with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph and gusts of up to 105 kph.

Signal No. 1 is raised over Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, and Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands, where minimal to minor wind impacts are expected.

PAGASA said Tino may make landfall over Eastern Samar or Dinagat Islands late Monday or early Tuesday before crossing Visayas and northern Palawan and exiting to the West Philippine Sea by Wednesday.

The storm is forecast to intensify into a typhoon within 24 hours, with the possibility of reaching super typhoon strength. The public and local disaster offices are advised to take precautionary measures against strong winds, heavy rains, and rough seas.
