NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro (May 8) – Police apprehended the driver of a white Howo trailer truck loaded with sacks of rice after responding to a report received by the Nabunturan Municipal Police Station from two concerned citizens. The truck was found parked in front of the residence of a barangay official in Purok-6, Barangay Manat, Nabunturan, Davao de Oro, around 9:00 a.m. on May 6, 2025.
According to the police report, a group of individuals was seen behind the barangay captain’s house lining up to receive distributed rice. Present during the distribution were members of the Civilian Volunteer Organization (CVO)/Barangay Police and the personal secretary of the Barangay Chairman from Población, Nabunturan — who is reportedly running for vice mayor of the municipality.
When various units of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and a representative from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) arrived at the scene, the rice had already been unloaded at the barangay official’s residence. The personal secretary, CVO members, and barangay police had fled, leaving only the truck driver, who was subsequently arrested by authorities.
The truck was estimated to be carrying around 2,500 sacks of rice, each weighing 25 kilos. Of these, 1,000 sacks had already been distributed, while the remaining 1,500 sacks and the truck itself are now in police custody.
The truck driver is currently under investigation at the police station.
The police emphasize their commitment to strictly enforcing the law to ensure fair and credible elections, as well as peace and order in the community.
