DAVAO CITY (May 9) – Residents of Purok 3, Sitio Quarry, Mundo Hill, Barangay Marilog Proper, Marilog District, Davao City worked together to dig through the soil that had buried a house due to a landslide in an effort to save those inside.

The incident occurred shortly after 9:00 AM on May 8.

According to reports, a 5-month-old baby identified as Khyle Layuran died on the spot. The infant was in a hammock when the landslide suddenly struck and buried their home.

Meanwhile, the baby’s grandmother, 56-year-old Merlinda Layuran, was rescued and rushed to the hospital.

Authorities revealed that the child’s parents had already been warned by barangay officials about the high risk of landslides in the area and were advised to take precautions.

The landslide was triggered by continuous rains over the previous days, which softened and destabilized the soil.

The affected family is temporarily staying with relatives, while barangay officials are coordinating assistance for them.
