DAVAO CITY (October 13) — Ambassador to the United Nations Teodoro “Teddy Boy” Locsin Jr. has accepted President Rodrigo Duterte’s offer to become the next secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), replacing Alan Peter Cayetano.

On his twit, Locsin said “I was asked I said yes.”

Locsin is the country’s permanent ambassador to the UN. He is a former Congressman in the first district of Makati.

Cayetano would be running as representative of Taguig City and he would be considered resigned once he files his certificate of candidacy.

In a report by PNA,  Cayetano was quoted saying “If the appointment papers are in order, and if papayag ‘yong secretary-designate, I’d like to do the symbolic turning over of the DFA flag to him on Wednesday or sooner.”

Cayetano said he will seek the House Speakership, but emphasized that his decision was to better serve President Rodrigo Duterte as an ally at the legislative branch.

In his arrival press conference at the Davao City International Airport early Friday, Duterte said he wanted Locsin to replace Cayetano.-NewsLine.ph
