US, Japan, Russia and China congratulate Marcos

DAVAO CITY — Leaders of the United States of America, Japan, Russia and China have sent their congratulatory messages to presumptive Philippine Presiden Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr in his victory as the 17th President of the country in the recent may 9, 2022 presidential elections.

United States President Joe Biden personally called Marcos on Thursday to congratulate him on his election, the White House said.

In a statement, the White House said US President Joe Biden spoke with Marcos in a phone call and congratulated him for his apparent victory in the May 9 elections.

The White House statement stated “President Biden underscored that he looks forward to working with the President-elect to continue strengthening the U.S.-Philippine Alliance, while expanding bilateral cooperation on a wide range of issues, including the fight against COVID-19, addressing the climate crisis, promoting broad-based economic growth, and respect for human rights.”

Chinese President President Xi Jinping sent his message through Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian conveyed warm greetings from President Xi.

“In recent years, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Philippines relations have been consolidated and enhanced, bringing benefits to the people of both countries and contributing to regional peace and stability. China is willing to work with the next Philippine government to preserve the good-neighborliness and focus on development, so as to deepen our Relationship of Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation. I also believe that the bilateral relations will become even stronger, our people closer and our cooperation deeper and wider,” the message stated.

Russian President Vladimir Putin in his message said that the relations between the Philippines and Russia were “traditionally friendly”.

“I hope that your efforts as head of state will facilitate further development of the fruitful cooperation between Russia and the Philippines in various areas. This meets in full the interests of our nations and is in line with the endeavors to strengthen security and stability in the Asia-Pacific region,” Putin said.

“On May 13, following the presidential election held on May 9, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, issued a letter of congratulations to His Excellency Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., President-elect of the Republic of the Philippines, on his victory,” the statement read.

“Prime Minister Kishida, in the letter, extended his congratulations to President-elect Marcos, and conveyed his determination to further promote cooperation as Strategic Partners in a wide range of areas toward the realization of a ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific,” it added.

World leaders expect the new president to be cordial to their countries as Philippines plays a major role in the military facilities as Philippines embarked support from these developed countries.-Editha Z Caduaya
