Vice Mayor of Marawi City arrested for murder

DAVAO CITY – Tension erupted at Marawi City Hall on Monday morning when operatives from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) apprehended Vice Mayor Annouar Romuros Abedin Abdulrauf at around 9:30 a.m.

Supporters of Abdulrauf, who were unaware of the case or its details, attempted to shield the vice mayor from arrest. However, law enforcement authorities managed to take Abdulrauf into custody amidst the commotion.

The arrest was based on a murder case filed in Caloocan City, as per the warrant of arrest issued under Criminal Case No. C-11215-16 by Presiding Judge Ma. Rowena Violago Alejandria of the Regional Trial Court (RTC), Branch 121, National Capital Region (NCR), Caloocan City.

The operation was conducted by the NBI in coordination with Task Force Marawi, Marawi City Police Station (CPS), the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), the 1403rd and 1402nd Regional Mobile Force Companies (RMFC), and the Special Action Force (SAF).

Abdulrauf is expected to be transferred to the jurisdiction of the issuing court, RTC Branch 121, Caloocan City, for further proceedings.
