MANILA (October 5) – Authorities arrested a woman on Thursday for allegedly selling ₱15.5 million worth of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) relief goods in Tondo, Manila.
CIDG spokesperson Maj. Helen dela Cruz identified the suspect as “Janice,” who was caught selling 6,000 DSWD Family Kits—marked “not for sale” and bearing the “Bagong Pilipinas” logo—for ₱2,588 each inside a warehouse. The arrest stemmed from a tip and a coordinated entrapment with DSWD.
DSWD clarified it has no ties to the warehouse or the suspect and vowed full legal action.
The woman faces charges under Republic Act 10121 for selling relief goods and Article 179 of the Revised Penal Code for illegal use of insignia. She claimed to be a DSWD supplier selling “excess” stocks, but authorities said the goods should not have been sold with official markings.
