CARMEN, Davao del Norte —  There is wonderland  in this town. The disney characters inside the wonderland highlight this year’s  9th Kahayag Festival, which  officially kicked off on Friday, December 6, with Mayor Virginia J. Perandos leading the official lighting ceremony.

The tall Christmas tree and the nativity symbols which sit inside the town complex catch the attention of the residents and motorist as well, as the festival village is just a stone’s throw away from the national highway.

This year’s theme, according to Perandos is Wonderland-inspired and is filled with disney characters. “The purpose of these festivity is to provide our people the glimpse of how Disneyland look like and to give them joy during the holiday season,” Perandos added.

Christmas is not just for kids but for everyone, Perandos exclaimed. “Christmas is for everyone and the spirit of joy must live in our hearts,” Perandos expressed.

Through Kahayag festival, Perandos explained that the people will remember Christ as he was born and shall give opportunity for people to renew that faith. “The nativity image is the center-stage of all these lights. This is our way of fostering friendship and bond among people in my town and this will showcase the unity of the people here,” said Perandos.

This project was conceptualized several years back and has been allocated an annual budget of P4-million.
