World Rowing champ is from Zamboanga

DAVAO CITY —- The people of Zamboanga City feted as the 2023 World Rowing Champion Kristine Paraon hails from the Latin City of Asia.

On Monday, Mayor John Dalipe led a simple to honor Paraon, a ZamboangueƱa, for her achievements in recent international competitions bringing honor and fame not only to Zamboanga City but the entire country.

On February 25-26, Paraon bagged the gold medal in the 19-20 Women’s 2,000 meters event in the 2023 World Rowing Indoor Championships held in Missisauga, Toronto, Canada.

The victory was in addition to her silver medal won in the Women’s 500 meters event held earlier, making her a WORLD CHAMPION in the rowing sports.

Recently she bagged the third place in the Asian Rowing Beach Sprint Championships, coastal women double sculls category held April 27 to 29, 2023 in Pattaya, Thailand.

The ceremony was held during the Monday flag raising.

On the same occasion, the city government also honored Paraon’s coach, Michelle Bader, a city government employee.

Paraon and her coach earlier received their cash incentives based on a city ordinance. Paraon’s incentive totaled P450,000 while her coach received P225K.

Dalipe congratulated Paraon success and for serving as inspiration to the Zamboanguenos.

The chief executive urged Paraon to continue doing her best in every competition she joins, as he reiterated his full support to the youth and sports development program of the city.
