ZAMBOANGA CITY (September 2) — Following last week’s recovery of more over P1 billion worth of shabu, local government officials here voiced concern that the city is becoming a hub and drop-off destination for big volumes of illegal drugs.

Along with other government representatives, Mayor Khymer Olaso urged law enforcement to step up their efforts to combat illegal drugs and end the trade.

Rep. Jerry Perez of the 1st District urged all law enforcement agencies to collaborate against illegal drug groups, stressing that “drug syndicates are using the city as their drop-off point for shabu.”

Police confiscated 89 kilos of shabu worth P605.2 million on Sunday at a checkpoint in Barangay Rio Hondo. A week earlier, police detained a person in Barangay Bongiao for smuggling 67 kilos of shabu valued P455.6 million.
