Leading the efforts are City Sports Division Chief, Dr. Cecil Atilano, and local National Sports Association (NSA) President, Elbert ‘Bong’ Atilano. The two met with sports officials to finalize the details of the month-long program, which aims to provide free training in 24 sporting events.

The diverse range of sports covered by the program includes archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball/softball, basketball, boxing, chess, dancesport, football/futsal, gymnastics, judo, karatedo, muay thai, pencak silat, and sepak takraw. In addition, participants can also take advantage of free training sessions in swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, and wushu.

The program is open to all school-aged children between 7 and 15 years old, free of charge. Registration forms can be obtained from the ZC Sports Division, located at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex in Baliwasan.

To kick off the program, an opening ceremony is scheduled for July 3, 2023, at 8 am, at the City Coliseum in Tetuan.

The Summer Learn to Play Program has become a highly anticipated annual event, providing an avenue for children to discover their passion for sports, learn new skills, and foster a love for physical activity.

The City Government, together with the dedicated sports trainers, is committed to ensuring the success of the program and the overall development of the young athletes. By providing free training opportunities, the program aims to promote inclusivity and accessibility to sports for all children in the community.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to take advantage of this initiative by registering their children for the Summer Learn to Play Program. (Zamboanga City Government)
