ZAMBOANGA CITY – A couple with travel history from Sabah and Tawi-Tawi has been charged for falsification of information and refusal to cooperate to authorities amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
Charged for violation of Republic Act 11332 also known as the “Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act” are Jay Christopher Tabat and his wife, Mary Gail Amante, residents of Purok 14, Barangay Sinunuc, this city.
The charge was filed Thursday by the Zamboanga City Police Office’s (ZCPO) Station 8 before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
The ZCPO Station 8 said that based on the report of the Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERT) the couple arrived around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday in Barangay Sinunuc, this city, from the municipality of Turtle Islands, Tawi-Tawi.

The police said that the couple arrived here via a private wharf in Barangay Baliwasan from Turtle Islands aboard a private vessel. They arrived on November 15 last year in Turtle Islands, Tawi-Tawi from Sandakan, Sabah, aboard a speedboat.
The police said that the couple claimed to have undergone quarantine in Turtle Islands, Tawi-Tawi but has now documents to show to prove their declaration.
They also presented a travel authority issued by a certain Hamja Bato of Turtle Islands but the document is unsigned.
They are now housed at the government-owned isolation facility in Zamboanga Economic Zone in Barangay Talisayan, this city, for the mandatory quarantine.
