DAVAO CITY Philippines — Overseas Filipino Workers who were issued plane tickets and Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) can still fly to Kuwait, says the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III Saturday clarified those with tickets and OEC are exempted from the deployment suspension.
Bello in an interview said “Ready na sila, nakagasto na rin for their trip, they are not covered by the suspension.”
But for those who have yet to process their documents, the suspension applies.
On Friday, January 19, Bello signed Administrative Order No. 25, suspending the deployment of Filipino workers to Kuwait following the death of seven OFWs.
The suspension is temporary, Bello explained because “We will investigate the true cause of death.”
Bello also directed the POEA to stop processing and issuance of OECs to Filipino workers for deployment to the said country. -Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
