MAWAB, DAVAO DE ORO – On Friday, September 8th, media practitioners from Davao Region gathered at Camp General Manuel T. Yan Senior in Mawab, Davao de Oro for Media Day, organized by the 10th Infantry Agila Division, Philippine Army.

The event aimed to strengthen the relationship between the 10th ID and media members from print, television, and broadcasting in Region 11, as well as to highlight the role of media in delivering accurate information to the public.

The program included a camp tour, showcasing the developments within the camp over the past 17 years since the 10th Infantry Agila Division was established in 2006. This transformation includes upgraded training facilities, a station hospital, administrative building improvements, additional military equipment and mobility assets, an organic demo farm, and other enhanced facilities within the camp.

The tour began with a visit to the military hospital. According to First Lieutenant Carlo Agcaoili, the Medical Admin, the station hospital has a 21-bed capacity. Furthermore, the hospital was made available to residents of Davao de Oro when the province experienced a strong earthquake earlier this year.

In addition to the hospital, a child-minding facility was set up with a dedicated room for children. Agcaoili emphasized that the children staying at the facility are not neglected and are looked after with care.

Ten children were accommodated within the facility, providing a safe environment for them during their parents’ hospital visits.

The media also explored the camp’s administrative building and the demo farm, where soldiers engage in organic and integrated farming, including growing vegetables and raising animals such as rabbits and chickens. This prepares them to teach livelihood skills to local communities within the 10th ID’s area of responsibility.

The soldiers use organic fertilizers on the demo farm, promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

The day also featured a capability demonstration by students from the 10th ID Training School. They simulated encounters or operations against members of the communist New People’s Army within their area of responsibility.

Brigadier General Allan Hambala, the Assistant Division Commander of the 10th Agila Division, expressed gratitude to the media members for their role in disseminating accurate information to the public. He encouraged them to continue cooperating in spreading information about the division’s efforts to maintain an insurgency-free Davao Region, regardless of who becomes the 10th ID commander.

The event culminated with a boodle fight, where both media members and soldiers shared a meal together.

The media also had the opportunity to participate in a fun shoot within the camp, allowing them to experience using firearms for self-defense.

Major Mark Anthony Tito, the spokesperson for the 10th ID, and the Division Public Affairs Office expressed their gratitude for the media’s attendance during this year’s Media Day.

The event was deemed successful, with attendees having a better understanding of the camp’s operations and the valuable role of the media in conveying important information.
