2 Part-time workers fall from tower in Digos City; 1 dead

DIGOS CITY — Two part-time workers fell from a 60-ft tower after it collapsed at around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 22, in Purok 7, Barangay San Roque, Digos City, Davao del Sur.

The victims were identified as alias ‘Jay’, 16 years old, and alias ‘Mark’, 19 years old. According to reports, the minor, alias ‘Jay,’ succumbed to severe injuries and was declared dead at noon, while alias ‘Mark’ sustained a chest injury and is currently under medical observation.

Both individuals were working part-time for an internet service provider business at the time of the accident. The report indicated that the tower collapsed as they were preparing to descend.

The victims were immediately rushed to the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital, but the severity of the injuries proved fatal for alias ‘Jay.’

The Digos City Police have launched a follow-up investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident, including whether negligence or liability on the part of the employer may have contributed to the tragedy.

Authorities are also monitoring the condition of alias ‘Mark’ as they continue to gather information regarding the structural integrity of the collapsed tower and adherence to workplace safety standards.
