22 dead, almost 190K affected in Mindanao quakes

MANILA — Families affected by the magnitude 6.6 and 6.5 earthquakes last October 29 and 31 in Tulunan, North Cotabato has climbed to 37, 706, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.

In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said this is equivalent to around 188,533 persons residing in 238 barangays in Davao Region and Soccsksargen.

The report, signed and released by NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad, said that around 4,800 families which is equivalent to 24,000 persons are now being aided in 34 evacuation centers while another 1,493 families or 7,465 individuals are helped outside.

Meanwhile, the number of persons killed in the two quakes was placed at 22 with 424 injured and two others still missing in Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The number of fatalities can be broken down into 12 from the magnitude 6.6 earthquake on October 29 while the remaining 10 were from the magnitude 6.5 earthquake last October 31.

The number of infrastructures damaged were placed at 29, 453 in Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen and BARMM. -PNA
