58IB welcomes new commander in change of ceremony

DAVAO CITY —The 58th Infantry Battalion (Dimalulupig) marked a significant leadership transition with the formal Change of Command ceremony held at its headquarters in Sitio Migbanday, Poblacion, Claveria, Misamis Oriental. The event, which took place on November 15, 2024, was overseen by Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II, Commander of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID).

The ceremony signified the official transfer of authority from outgoing Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Christian C. Uy to Lt. Col. Leoncito I. Grezula Jr., who now assumes the role of Acting Commanding Officer of the 58th Infantry Battalion.

Distinguished guests present included Major General Adonis Ariel Orio, Commander of the 8th Infantry Division (8ID), Brigadier General Arsenio Sadural, Commander of the 901st Brigade (4ID), fellow battalion commanders from various units, alongside local government officials and stakeholders from the region.

The ceremony underscored the 58IB’s steadfast dedication to its mission of maintaining peace and enhancing national security through effective leadership and teamwork.

Outgoing Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Christian C. Uy, was lauded for his exceptional leadership and commitment during his tenure at the helm of the Dimalulupig Battalion. Under his leadership, the battalion achieved significant advancements in operational effectiveness and cultivated a culture of excellence among its personnel.

At the ceremony, Lt. Col. Uy received plaques of appreciation from various units under the Joint Task Force (JTF) Diamond, and tokens of gratitude from peace partner stakeholders in acknowledgment of his invaluable contributions.

In his farewell message, Lt. Col. Uy extended heartfelt gratitude to the Dimalulupig Troopers for their unwavering commitment and resilience. “Leading this battalion has been a tremendous privilege in my career. I am confident that Lt. Col. Grezula Jr. will continue our successes and lead this unit towards greater achievements,” he remarked.

On the other hand, Incoming Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. Leoncito I. Grezula Jr., vowed to uphold the proud traditions of the 58IB while introducing new strategies aimed at boosting operational readiness and prioritizing the welfare of the soldiers. “Assuming this responsibility fills me with humility. Together, we will pursue excellence and remain devoted to our national service mission,” stated Lt. Col. Grezula Jr.

Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II, Commander of 4ID, expressed full confidence in the new Battalion Commander, highlighting Lt. Col. Grezula Jr.’s leadership qualities and preparedness for the forthcoming challenges. He also commended Lt. Col. Uy for his exceptional service and the solid groundwork he established for the battalion’s ongoing success.

The Change of Command ceremony, a revered military custom, signifies the smooth transition of leadership, ensuring continuity and stability within the ranks of the 58th Infantry Battalion.
