DAVAO CITY — Eight members of the terrorist Islamic State liked to Dawlah Islamiyah were killed in a series of encounters between soldiers in Piagapo, Lanao del Sur last Thursday and Friday.
Six (6) of the eight (8) killed in the encounter have been identified while four (4) of the soldiers were also injured.
The government suspects that the slain terrorist were responsible for the shooting at the Dimaporo Gym inside the Mindanao State University in Marawi City on December 3, 2023, which killed 11 people and injured others.
According to BGen. Yegor Rey Baroquillo Jr., commander of the 103rd Infantry Brigade, the encounter took place in Barangay Taporug near the boundary of Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur. High-powered firearms, radios and cellphones were recovered in the area. The clearing and self-in-place pursuit operation in the area will continue.
