MANILA –– Nine cadets from the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) were recommended to be dismissed from the academe while 33 others have been sanctioned for their involvement in the mauling of graduating upperclassmen last March.

In a statement Tuesday, Philippine National Police spokesman Senior Supt. Benigno Durana Jr. said the decision was released on Aug. 10 and the parties were given 10 days to appeal.

ā€So the deadline (for their appeal) is August 22,ā€ Durana said.

Durana, quoting PNPA Director, Chief Supt. Joseph Adnol, said the decision named nine cadets for dismissal from cadetship; two for suspension or turnback; and 31 for demerits, touring and confinement.

Two cadets, meanwhile, were exonerated.

The PNP earlier assured prompt disciplinary action against the police cadets caught on video mauling six students who were among the 106 from the PNPA who graduated March 21.

These cadets allegedly mauled six of the graduating upper classmen with bare knuckles and arnis sticks shortly after the graduation ceremonies and away from the view of the public audience who attended the graduation ceremony of the 2018 Maragtas Class which was also attended by President Rodrigo Duterte. -PNA
