Typhoon ‘Mangkhut’ strengthens; expected to enter PH Wednesday

DAVAO CITY (September 12) — Severe Tropical Storm “Mangkhut” gained strength as it moves closer closer to the Philippine Area of responsibility.

The latest update from Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) shows, the he eye of typhoon “Mangkhut” was located, based on all available data, at 1,845 km East of Southern Luzon.

The typhoon may enter  Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this afternoon (12 September) and will be named “Ompong”.

The typhoon is threatening Northern Luzon and may traverse the Cagayan – Batanes area this Saturday (15 September).

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal  # 1 may be raised as early as tomorrow evening (12 September).

The typhoon may strengthen the Southwest Monsoon bringing scattered light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over the Zamboanga Peninsula, Western Visayas and Palawan starting Thursday (13 September).

The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to monitor for the next update on this weather disturbance to be incorporated in the Public Weather Forecast at 4 PM today and in the next advisory at 11 AM tomorrow.-NewsLine.ph
