Carnapper shot dead while driving stolen vehicle

DAVAO CITY (January 29)— Police authorities here shot dead  in Barangay Sirawan,   a suspected carnapper while  he was trying to drive away  the stolen vehicle, midday yesterday.

The suspect was later identified through his identification card as one William Bucod Milana 36 , resident of Crossing Highway Town Site Brgy. Zone 2, Sta. Cruz, Davao Del Sur.

Toril police station commander,  Chef Inspector Jerome de Guzman in a report said on or about  12:35  afternoon yesterday,  they received a telephone call informing them  that a carnapped vehicle one Dark Gray Toyota Hi-lux bearing plate No. KDV-769 was heading towards the direction of Barangay Sirawan.

De Guzman and his team immediately  conducted a  hot pursuit operation, while coordinating with Maj, Reynaldo Geslaga,, Task Group Commander TF Davao Sirawan Base, Davao City and Police Senior Inspector Mary Grace Martinez , Chief of Police of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur regarding the incident.

Soldiers at the  TF Davao checkpoint fagged down Milana,  but instead of stopping,  he fired upon the soldier and speed off towards Davao del Sur, which prompted the law enforcers to chase him.

The pursuing police and TF Davao personnel managed to corner the vehicle at Sirawan proper.

Instead of surrendering peacefully, Milana fired at the  pursuing police officers prompting them to return fire which resulted to his death.

Police investigation showed that on or about  12:30 PM January 28, 2019, the driver of the involved vehicle was having his lunch at the eatery located at Mc Arthur Highway, Toril, Davao City leaving his vehicle while the engine was on, he later noticed that  his vehicle suddenly accelerated towards Davao del Sur area prompted him to call for police assistance.

Elizer Curaza,  the driver of the vehicle, he parked his car but did not shut off the engine because he was just off for a quick kunch,

The Scene of the Crime Operative  (SOCO) led by Police Chief Inspector Armando Galigo   recovered one (1) Smith and Wesson .38 revolver with serial no. 068379 loaded with four (4) pcs. live Ammunition and Two (2) pcs. fired cartridges of .38 Cal. –Jiann A.
