Police probes ambush of Lanao del Sur Mayor

ILIGAN CITY —– The Special Investigation Task Group created to probe behind the ambush of Masiu, Lanao del Sur Mayor Nasser Pangandaman is now working to determine the motive behind the incident.

The convoy of Pangandaman Jr. was ambushed by still unidentified armed men, around 10:00 am Sunday, November 10, in Barangay Gata, Buadipuso Buntong town.

Colonel Madzgani Mukaram, chief of Provincial Police Office in Lanao del Sur, said Pangandaman was on the way to his office, from Marawi City, when the gunmen, armed with high-powered firearms, waylaid his convoy.

Mukaram said the special task group are now working to identify the suspects and the motive behind the ambush.

Pangandaman and his personal escorts were unhurt but his police escort, Corporal Jabbar Romato Pangandaman and two other civilian companions, Jamal Gabriel Pangandaman and Casanoding Mangandog were injured.

Mukaram said SSgt. Pangandaman sustained gunshot wound on his abdomen, Jamal on his right knee while Mangandog in his buttocks.

They are now in a stable condition at Amai Pakpak Medical Center.

LtCol. Edgar Allan Villanueva, commander of the Army’s 49th Infantry Battalion, said Pangandaman was on his way to preside the regular meeting of his Municipal Peace and Order Council at 10:00am, when the incident happened.-Divina M. Suson
