DAVAO CITY— President Rodrigo Duterte formally announced the appointment of OIC PNP chief Lt.Gen. Archie Gamboa as the PNP Chief.

Duterte announced the appointment of Gamboa when he guested the thanksgiving of Fraternal Orders of the Eagles at SMX Lanang here, Friday night, January 17.

The President cut his speech and said “We have the PNP Chief — I’m going to appoint you as the regular PNP…But you and I will have — you and Secretary Año and I will have a long, long talk first.”

Duterte said he appoints Gamboa because “Pinakita mo sa akin ‘yung sincerity mo. I’d like you to leave something that you will be remembered by the country.”

But there is a need to have a long, long talk with Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año before he can officially assume the post.

Gamboa was designated the PNP OIC Chief since former Chief Oscar Abayalde resigned from his post in the wake of the Senate investigation on the issue involving him and the ninja cops.

Earlier on, speculations were rife, some groups are pushing for the appointment of LtGen. Guillermo Eleazar, chief of the Directorial Staff of the Philippine National Police (PNP), as the next chief.

But on Friday, Duterte ended the long wait when he announced the appointment of Gamboa.
