13 soldiers, 8 CAFGU’s injured in road accident

ILIGAN CITY (UPDATED) –— Thirteen soldiers and six members of the Civilian Forces Geographical Unit were injured when their vehicle fell into a ravine in Barangay Lanipao, this city at around 6:00 in the evening on Friday.

One of the 13 soldiers was critically wounded due to a wound in his abdomen, while the rest suffered injuries and were immediately brought to a local hospital.

As of Saturday morning reports revealed that the soldier identified as Private First Class Leandro Gabriel de Asis, died due to “hemorrhage secondary to severe blunt trauma in the abdomen.

Lieutenant Colonel Domingo Dulay, commander of the 4th Mechanized battalion, said the soldiers are part of the team who conducted an activity of the Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict in Barangay Kalilangan.

Based on initial reports, Dulay said the soldiers were on their way back to the headquarters in Barangay Rogongon when the vehicle had mechanical error.

The slippery road due to the early morning rain in Iligan City could have contributed to the accident, the official added

Dulay narrated, “We were the last in the convoy because we have to pull the around 30 civilian vehicles that have difficulties in traversing the slippery roads.”-Divina M. Suson
