DAVAO CITY — Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has appealed to Dabawenyos to refrain from spreading fake and unverified information related to the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in any social media platforms.

Duterte reiterated the call on Sunday as she warned the “panic and chaos” that could result in incorrect information being spread on social media as millions around the country stay in their homes for the quarantine.

“Since we are not doing anything at home, whatever we see on Facebook or in any social media platform, these become our world,” Duterte-Carpio added.

She also advised the public to report posts containing unverified information on Covid-19 so that Facebook and other social media platforms can act on it.

To obtain verified information on the deadly viral disease and the government’s actions, Mayor Sara said residents should get their updates from the city’s official Facebook Page–such as Government of Davao and Byaheng Do30–and the government-run Davao City Disaster Radio.

To ease anxiety and tension, the mayor also advised residents to focus on practicing preventive health measures rather than be fixated on the positive Covid-19 cases.

Sara also reiterated the following advice: stay home, observe social distancing, regularly wash hands with soap and water, stay away from people who have travel history from areas positive with Covid-19, and call the Covid-19 Operation Center if they experience flu-like symptoms and diarrhea. –PNA
